About Peter Schmidt
Peter Schmidt has been practicing massage since 2004 when he graduated from the Utah College Of Massage. From 2005 to 2008 he worked for Canyon Ranch Health Resort in Lenox, MA.
Peter's interest in massage has been a long standing one... In 1982 while still attending Islip High School he became interested in massage, reading several books on the subject. Unfortunately, at the time, his life led him in other directions. In 1992 after several years of working as a flooring installer he suffered from a disabling back injury, that is when he first met Philip Facquet. He began learning more about the human body and how it works, and started to rediscover his interest in massage. while always a natural at massage he lacked the proper training of a massage therapist. In 2003 after moving to Denver he began having trouble with an employer, finding he lacked the interest in his job he began thinking about what his friends had told him for years, "Pete, you're a natural at massage... you should go to school for it." That was his ah ha moment.
While still working at his former job he attended the Utah College of Massage Therapy, Denver campus. Studying many styles of massage, i.e. acupressure, shiatsu, reflexology, hydro therapy, injury sports Swedish, deep tissue and trigger point massage. in December of 2004 he graduated with honors. Three days after graduating he took a position as a therapist in a day spa in Laramie, Wyoming. While the job was not what he hoped for he continued to look for another position as a full time therapist. In April of 2005 he found him self moving to the Berkshires of western Massachusetts to work with Canyon Ranch Health Resort.
Canyon Ranch was a great learning experience. They taught him not just about developing his massage skills, but how to live healthy. As an employee of the health resort he was encouraged to not only use the training equipment, but to attend classes on health eating and living.
In 2008 after a motor vehicle accident he returned to the area he grew up in, Long Island, to help share his knowledge of healthy living and the benefits of massage and chiropractic.
Peter's interests includes activities like facebooking, hiking, camping, canoeing, kayaking, website design and photography. When ever possible he combines them. taking photos while hiking or kayaking and then posting and sharing his ever growing art collection on line at SWAMPonline.com
